  1. Teaching your kids how to brush their teeth properly at a young age is a great thing. But after trying this toothbrush out on myself, I have some major caveats. If you are considering this product for your kids, you may wish to consider the following:

    - unit is surprisingly big and long.. even taller than an average adult’s electric toothbrush (see my photo in the product gallery for size comparison). This is potentially cumbersome for little hands.

    - instead of just the bristles rotating, the entire head shaft vibrates back and forth at high speed, transferring a lot of vibration through the head into the gums and teeth. This caused me unpleasant tingling, especially at the high speed setting. Lips and cheek contacting the drive shaft also get tingling.

    - uninspired faceplate designs. You get a yellow one, a blue one, and a black one. All just dots or bubbles (see gallery).

    - entire back of faceplate is a sheet of strong adhesive. Changing out a design for another one is very difficult. Faceplate will probably get destroyed in the removal attempt. I used my finger nails and couldn’t pry one off.

    - charger base is actually just a cap that covers over the power stump. It doesn’t snap in place, allowing it to get lost or fall onto the floor.

    - during the beeping of the KidTimer intervals, brushing stops temporarily

These design flaws make this product hard to recommend. Most problematic is the vibration. The instruction manual warns that “The Sonicare may feel ticklish upon first use”. I found this to be an unpleasant feeling on my teeth. This sensation may scare your child off to the entire tooth-brushing experience, and he/she may not have the patience to “ease into the Sonicare experience”.

You may wish to consider a gentler toothbrush, like the “normal” ones where only the brush bristles rotate. The Oral-B Vitality Precision Clean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, for example, is highly rated (4.5 stars after 178 reviews) though it is not made specifically for kids. It also has a 2 minute and at $20, is 1/3 the price.

  2. It is so well made! It is their latest technology! It is a bargain for the whole family. The kids love it — I think the vibrant colors attract the kids. Just a great product at a great price point. Super highly recommended.

  3. This is an excellent gadget. It combines a good electronic brush with a cute set of tunes. Dental Care + entertainment results in an appealing fashion to ward off future “dental panels”.

  4. Unless the brushing is totally supervised we found four years old to be far too young for this brush. Granted, she wanted to give it a try so we do but only with an adult right there guiding.

While we like the fun colors for the quite young child it really makes it look like a toy, and they need to know it definitely is not. Printing “Not A Toy” on the enclosed instruction booklet doesn’t do it for kids.

Now, when it comes to youngsters seven and older, it’s wonderful, certainly encouraging them to brush their teeth. They find the notifications to change positions really cool and so far do a much better job of brushing than was ever done with a manual. brush.

  5. I recommend this brush not just for kids, but for adults with limited dexterity, crowded teeth, heavy stain, and those who found the original Sonicare too strong for their sensitive teeth, but want the toothbrush with the best ability to remove stains. I can agree that I have seen significant stain removal after a week of using the brush, and it is a great investment for anyone who is interested in whitening their teeth. The two head sizes make this a versatile brush for everyone. Safe if you have veneers, implants, etc. Just take the time to read the brushing instructions – this is not like the other brushes on the market.
